Why is the Orbishape better than a conventional breast reduction or breast lift?
The results of a standard breast reduction/lift are usually beautiful, however they do not last and after just a few months the breast begins to re-sag and the scars may become more noticeable. The Orbishape prevents the re-sagging of the breast and the scarring is better because the device relieves some of the tension on the skin.
How does OrbiShape work?
The Orbishape is inserted into the breast during the breast reduction/lift and is anchored to the ribs. It supports the breast so part of the weight of the breast lays on the device.

Will I feel more pain at mammography and will the device impair breast cancer detection?
You may feel more pain during breast assessment but there should be not delay in detection of breast cancer with the device in.
Will I have more scarring than a regular procedure?
In contrary, you may have reduced scarring. Scarring may result due to tension over the suture line, with the Orbishape device the sling relieves tension from the skin thus allows better healing with less scarring.
Is there a chance to lose the ability to nurse my future babies?
Every Breast reduction/breast lift may impair nursing (5-10%). The Orbishape device and insertion will not add to that risk.
Will it damage my nipple sensation?
Every Breast reduction/breast lift may impair nipple areola sensation (3-7%). The Orbishape device and insertion will not add to that risk.
Is there a chance for asymmetry?
Yes, as in any plastic surgery and specifically breast procedures. The device on one side may give less support to one breast then to the other or it may cause indentation . If this occurrs a revision surgery may be needed if the phenomenon did not subside by itself within 3 months.

Will I have to re-do the operation in several years?
With aging, change of body weight and habitus the size and texture of the breasts will also change thus after a long period of time you may want to re-do the operation. It is important to stress that a regular procedure will have to be repeated much sooner than with the Orbishape device.
Will I or my partner will feel the device?
In most cases, no. In smaller size breasts and with more soft texture the device may be lightly palpated but not as much as a regular breast augmentation implant.
Is it dangerous to the ribs?
Every surgical procedure has its risks. As in every procedure there is a small risk for bleeding that will need to be surgically stopped at the night of the procedure, Infection that will require IV antibiotic administration and the small risk of needing to remove the device due to non-responsive infection. There is a small danger for rib fracture , a situation that is self-healing although could be painful and an even more rare option for pneumothorax which is the accumulation of air around the lungs, a situation that may require the insertion a draining tube to the chest wall for a short period of time.
What if there is infection?
The risk of infection is very low. If occurs, you will be receiving IV antibiotics and only if healing will not occur the device will have to be removed but can be re-inserted several months later.
How long will I stay in the hospital?
As in a regular breast reduction/lift the hospitalization is 12-24 hours.
How long will the procedure last?
A regular breast reduction/breast reduction take between one hour to three hours . The Orbishape procedure will add 20-45 minutes to the overall procedure.
